Designing for Light

Letting the Light In
Where windows are placed can completely change how a space feels. Think about orientation—south-facing rooms often enjoy more light. Skylights, mirrors, and light-colored surfaces can multiply brightness.
Frames and Filters
Sheer curtains offer privacy without blocking light. Matte finishes reflect less harshly than glossy ones. Greenery softens sunbeams. Light is more than brightness—it’s atmosphere.
Smart Renovations
If you’re remodeling, consider enlarging windows or adding glass doors. Even small adjustments—like removing upper cabinets or opening a wall—can let the light travel freely.
